Sinful Homemade Hot Chocolate recipe
My boyfriend is a huge chocolate fan. I mean, why wouldn't he be, he's dating me! LOL. We wanted something sweet and warm to drink since it's getting down in the 20s tonight (brrrr!) So I came up with the idea to make hot chocolate from scratch. I looked up the queen of cuisine, Ina Garten a.k.a. Barefoot Contessa, for her recipe for hot chocolate and tweaked it a bit. Here goes:
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups whole milk
2 cups half-and-half
4 ounces Bakers semisweet chocolate, chopped
4.4 ounces Hershey's milk chocolate, chopped
3 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee powder
miniature marshmallows for topping
Directions
Heat the milk and half-and-half in a saucepan on medium heat to just below the simmering point. Remove the pan from the heat and add both chocolates. Once the chocolates are melted, add the sugar, vanilla extract, and espresso and whisk vigorously. Reheat gently and serve with miniature marshmallows on top.
